What Are You Doing for Orphan Sunday?

What are your plans for Orphan Sunday?
What is your church doing?
If your church is not doing anything what are you planning to do as a family?
One of the things my family will be doing is watching the LIVE Nashville event webcast. Join us and many others here.

I can’t but think there are many folks in the second category…share your thoughts and ideas!

Vodpod videos no longer available.

  1. Our church is hosting the webcast! Our family will also be sharing a brief testimony to give a picture of adoption during both morning services. We’re so excited that they are catching the vision of adoption, both vertically and horizontally. This opportunity to start an adoption ministry in the church was just getting off the ground when the Orphan Sunday announcement came out. There are many adoptive families in our church, some just don’t know it yet. 😉

    • Andrea – that is awesome! I love thinking about the “unsuspecting” couples during events like this! I will pray it is a powerful Sunday for your church!

  2. our church is not doing anything, but several of us got an announcement in the bulletin to have a brief prayer meeting after church. baby steps! hoping this gathering serves as a springboard to future things that the Lord might have in store for our church.

  3. We are kicking off our adoption/orphan care ministry. And we are sooooo excited!!!! Thanks Jason for helping us get our act together!

1st Pres Downtown Winston-Salem is holing the Live from Nashville concert on live stream. We are excited about that as well!

  4. We have invited the board member families of Here I Am Orphan Ministries (approx. 5 families with approx. 30 adopted children between them) to join us at Heritage Family Baptist Church in Tomball, TX, to show a slideshow, give testimonies, and one of the adopted boys from Kazakhstan will be giving a testimony as well. My daughter from Liberia will be leading in prayer, and I will preach a message from Job 29-31 regarding Job’s righteous passion for the fatherless. We will have dinner at the church along with Q & A about orphan ministry and adoption.

  5. We’re really excited to be centering the whole Sunday service around adoption/orphan care! Another adoptive mom and I have about 10 minutes during the service to show a couple videos and announce our plans to launch an Orphan Care Ministry at our church. I suggested some songs to connect with the theme, and our worship leader chose two to introduce as new songs (“The Father’s Love” from the Sovereign Grace CD, Sons and Daughters, and “You Said” by Shane Barnard). The sermon will also be about the Church’s call to care for the orphan and our spiritual adoption into God’s family. And we’re including bulletin inserts that we got from the resources section on the orphansunday.org site. Last year, we just had five minutes during the service to show a quick video and share a little, and that was it. Needless to say, we’re thrilled to have the whole service to focus the church’s attention on adoption and orphan care this year!

  6. I am leading a time of prayer on behalf of orphans. I am going to have 5-6 stations, and have pairs of 2-3 walk together and read what is posted at each station, and have them pray.
